Bipul's research is all about extracting features/objects from mostly remote sensing images (optical, multispectral, LiDAR) and also ground-based cameras using efficient machine/deep learning solutions. He has developed applicable AI solutions for applications such as urban mapping, precision agriculture, and intelligent transport systems. He carries 10+ years of experience (both applied and teaching) in Python programming, GIS, remote sensing, and machine/deep learning. Bipul is highly interested in applied research that needs the development of computer vision and remote sensing solutions.
Lakmani has had the privilege of working in diverse roles that have shaped her communication education and writing skills. From 1996 to 2011, she worked as a newscaster and a news anchor at Radio Sri Lanka and the Independent Television Network. Anchoring the main news bulletin required her to multitask, research stories, prepare scripts, and stay composed during live broadcasts. She became adept at maintaining professionalism, even when unexpected situations arose during broadcasts, and this experience further developed her ability to manage high-pressure situations. Beyond her work in media, Lakmani has a deep passion for education. From 2010 to 2011, she served as a visiting tutor at the Open University of Sri Lanka and taught English for General Academic Purposes to undergraduates within the Human Sciences faculty. Lakmani is also the author of the children’s book Patiya, published by Jam Fruit Publications. This book, written in English, was a creative project exploring children's literature.
