Domestic Student Placements 

An Australian Government 50% rebate is available to all Australian businesses that place a domestic PhD student, bringing down the cost of a 3-month research project to $10,000.

These internships are supported by the Australian Government Department of Education, through the ‘Supporting more women in STEM careers: Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) – National Research Internships Program (NRIP)’.

International Student Placements

The cost of an internship with an international student, placed outside of the Australian Government’s NRIP Program, starts from $25,000 for a 3-month project. This includes:

  • Student Internship Scholarship of $3,000 per month
  • Academic Mentor one-off fee of $5,500
  • APR.Intern one-off fee of $5,500 for administration and case management
  • One-off payment of $5,000 to Government as a co-contribution for operational funding costs

ADDITIONAL RESEARCH SUBSIDIES 

Defence Innovation Network (DIN) Subsidy

Eligible NSW Defence businesses can access a $10,000 Defence Innovation Network (DIN) Voucher. When combined with the Australian Government 50% Rebate, this brings down the cost of a 3-month project to $5,000.

Defence Science Centre (DSC) Subsidy

Eligible WA Defence businesses can access a $10,000 Defence Science Centre (DSC) Voucher. When combined with the Australian Government 50% Rebate, this brings down the cost of a 3-month project to $5,000.

Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL) Subsidy

Eligible food and beverage businesses can access up to $4,000 in funding support from Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL). When combined with the Australian Government 50% Rebate, this brings down the cost of a 3-month PhD-level research project to $8,000 from $20,000.

Innovative Manufacturing CRC (IMCRC) Subsidy

Eligible manufacturing businesses can access up to $10,000 in funding support from the Innovative Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (IMCRC). When combined with the Australian Government 50% Rebate, this brings down the cost of a 3-month project to $5,000 for IMCRC partners or $7,500 for non-IMCRC partners.

MTPConnect REDI Subsidy

Businesses within the medtech, biotech and pharmaceutical sector can access $10,000 in funding support from the MedTech and Pharma Growth Centre (MTPConnect). Together with the Australian Government 50% rebate, this covers the entire net cost of a full-time 3-month research project.
