Application of Research to Industry
The key aim of my research is the development of a binder material for construction use through a low carbon route. Traditional Portland cement production accounts for almost 8% of the global CO2 emission and the development of alternative binders is necessary to recuce the utilisation of the traditional cement. In my project a new absorbent for CO2 capture will be developed and this CO2 loaded solvent will be used directly to produce a new binder system using mineralisation techniques. The research outcome of the project will advance knowledge in nucleation and crystals growth, new absorbents for CO2 capture, and the effect of the incorporation of wastes on the novel binder material for civil engineering applications.
