Project Duration: September 2011 to February 2012
The development of a new approach to assist local government decision makers when making decisions that have implications on flood management.
Events in 2011 emanating from the summer flooding in Queensland and Victoria highlighted the need for a methodical and objective modeling approach to approving planning decisions that impact on water catchment management. Bass Coast Shire was one such local government impacted heavily by these recent events.
Located on the urban/rural fringe, in an area where upstream modifications have impacted on downstream water flow, there is a need to reconsider the planning approval process, and to incorporate new data sets and methods for ascertaining impacts from land use change.
