Decentralised AI Juries: Exploring AI Agent AppChains as a Solution for Automated Online Dispute Resolution and Moderation
Engineering, IT, Mathematics and Statistics
ABOUT THE INDUSTRY PARTNER
Evernode Labs is the commercialisation vehicle of research undertaken at the ANU School of Law. It launched the Evernode Network (www.evernode.org) a DePIN for hosting dApps and decentralised progressive web apps. The Evernode Network can support a wide range of dApps, including consensus-ing AI Agents (also called AI Juries – see https://lexautomagica.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/AI-Juries.pdf)
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
- Pioneering Research in AI and Blockchain: Contribute to cutting-edge research by testing AI Juries—decentralised intelligent agents—within the GameGods platform, exploring their potential to revolutionise online, automated decision-making.
- Hands-On Technical Experience: Gain practical skills in developing and deploying AI models and smart contracts on the Evernode network, working with real-world blockchain infrastructure and gaming applications.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Engage with experts in AI, blockchain, and game design, fostering a rich, collaborative environment that enhances your academic and professional network.
- Publication and Recognition: Co-author high-impact papers based on the project’s findings, boosting your research profile and positioning you as a leader in an emerging field.
RESEARCH TO BE CONDUCTED
Evernode Labs has created a “working toy” of an AI Jury—multiple AI agents on the Evernode platform that collaboratively make binary decisions—and now seeks to refine this technology through gaming applications. The research will deploy and test text-prompted, CPU-based AI Juries within the GameGods platform, a low-risk environment, to evaluate their effectiveness in powering game mechanics and decision-making. The PhD intern will work with our CTO to benchmark performance, optimise the system, and explore its potential for broader use cases like corporate governance, paving the way for innovative enterprise financial management solutions.
SKILLS WISH LIST
If you’re a postgraduate research student and meet some or all the below we want to hear from you. We strongly encourage women, indigenous and disadvantaged candidates to apply:
- AI and Machine Learning: Proficiency in designing, training, and deploying AI models, ideally with experience in natural language processing (NLP) or large language models (LLMs), to create and refine text-prompted AI agents capable of interpreting game rules and financial policies.
- Blockchain and Smart Contract Development: Familiarity (or willingness to learn) with blockchain technologies, particularly the XRPL, Xahau Network’s architecture and Evernode’s decentralised computing model, including experience or willingness to learn smart contract development using tools like the Evernode SDK (JavaScript/Python) and HotPocket consensus mechanisms.
- Programming and Systems Integration: Strong programming skills in languages such as JavaScript or Python, with the ability to integrate AI components with Evernode’s distributed infrastructure and handle state management across decentralised nodes.
- Analytical and Research Skills: Capability to conduct performance benchmarking, analyse system efficiency (e.g., consensus speed, resource usage), and document findings rigorously for academic publication, requiring both quantitative analysis and critical thinking.
RESEARCH OUTCOMES
- Validated AI Jury Performance: Demonstrate that text-prompted AI Juries, deployed on Evernode, can reliably and efficiently reach consensus on binary decisions within the GameGods platform, providing a proof-of-concept for decentralised decision-making in a gaming context.
- Benchmarked System Efficiency: Establish quantitative benchmarks for the AI Jury system’s performance, including decision accuracy, consensus speed, and computational resource use on CPU-based Evernode instances, to assess its scalability and practicality.
- Refined Technology Framework: Develop an optimised version of the AI Jury system, incorporating insights from testing and benchmarking, to enhance its robustness and adaptability for potential enterprise applications like financial policy enforcement.
- Foundation for Broader Applications: Produce a comprehensive report and potential academic paper documenting the findings, laying the groundwork for extending AI Juries to real-world use cases such as online dispute resolution and corporate governance in enterprise financial management.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The intern will receive $3,300 per month of the internship, usually in the form of scholarship payments.
It is expected that the intern will primarily undertake this research project during regular business hours and maintain contact with their academic mentor throughout the internship either through face-to-face or phone meetings as appropriate.
The intern and their academic mentor will have the opportunity to negotiate the project’s scope, milestones and timeline during the project planning stage.
Please note, applications are reviewed regularly and this internship may be filled prior to the advertised closing date if a suitable applicant is identified. Early submissions are encouraged.
