Patient Reported Measures: Data in Action
Engineering, IT, Mathematics and Statistics
PLEASE NOTE
This internship may be eligible for funding through the Australian Government Women in STEM and Entrepreneurship (WiSE) grant. Female STEM HDR students are encouraged to apply.
ABOUT THE INDUSTRY PARTNER
The Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) leads innovation in clinical care across NSW by designing and supporting the implementation of evidence-based models of care. ACI works in partnership with clinicians, consumers, and health system stakeholders to improve health outcomes and patient experiences.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
- Gain hands-on experience working with a large-scale health dataset (PRMs) in a real-world policy and service delivery context.
- Collaborate with clinicians, data experts, and key stakeholders across the Agency for Clinical Innovation to support evidence-based decision making.
- Build and refine skills in data analysis and visualisation using Power BI, including setting up dashboards for ongoing reporting and developing analytical outputs for specific clinical programs and cohorts.
- Produce tangible outputs – such as dashboards, reports and case studies that may contribute directly to service and system improvement across the NSW Health system.
RESEARCH TO BE CONDUCTED
The student will explore and analyse data from the Patient Reported Measures data asset to identify patterns, trends, and insights that can inform service delivery and model of care development. Under supervision, they will co-design and produce data visualisations, reports and dashboards in collaboration with clinical services and ACI Networks. The project will also involve developing case studies that demonstrate the practical application of PRMs in improving patient outcomes, service design and model of care development.
SKILLS WISH LIST
If you’re a postgraduate research student and meet some or all the below we want to hear from you. We strongly encourage women, indigenous and disadvantaged candidates to apply:
- Strong experience in data analysis and visualisation, specifically using Microsoft Power BI (or a similar business intelligence tool).
- Experience in analysing longitudinal data to identify trends and changes over time, and visualising insights using Microsoft Power BI.
- Understanding of, or interest in, health systems, public health, or patient reported measures specifically.
- Strong communication skills, especially in translating data into meaningful insights for diverse audiences.
- Ability to collaborate and engage confidently with stakeholders.
RESEARCH OUTCOMES
- A suite of interactive dashboards, visualisations and reports that are intuitive and easy to use by clinical services and ACI Networks to support service improvement.
- Case studies showcasing the use of PRMs in practice to inform model of care design and highlight meaningful patient insights.
- Recommendations for how PRMs data can be more effectively utilised at both the service and system level to support evidence-based decision making.
- A final presentation or report summarising key findings, insights generated through analysis and potential areas for future research or implementation.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The intern will receive $3,300 per month of the internship, usually in the form of scholarship payments.
It is expected that the intern will primarily undertake this research project during regular business hours and maintain contact with their academic mentor throughout the internship either through face-to-face or phone meetings as appropriate.
The intern and their academic mentor will have the opportunity to negotiate the project’s scope, milestones and timeline during the project planning stage.
Please note, applications are reviewed regularly and this internship may be filled prior to the advertised closing date if a suitable applicant is identified. Early submissions are encouraged.
