WHY APR.INTERN?

Currently only 43% of Australia’s STEM PhDs enter Industry.

As Australia’s only national postgraduate internship program and modelled on Canada’s globally respected MITACS program, we have been identified as playing a critical role in accelerating STEM innovation and strengthening essential academic-industry collaboration.

Recent findings from the ACOLA Review of Research Training and the Commonwealth Government’s Review of Research Policy and Funding Arrangements, emphasise the critical role of such programs in accelerating the placements of skilled PhDs at the frontline of our most pressing industry challenges.

“The role played by intermediaries, such as APR.Intern (AMSI Intern), in matching research candidates with industry partners should not be underestimated.” – (2016) Review of Australia’s Research Training System. Report for the Australian Council of Learned Academies, acola.org.au.

“Incorporation of business placements in PhD training can help students understand the value of business relevant research as well as building skills for future employment in business settings. Work integrated learning already has a growing focus in undergraduate training.” – Report of the Review of Research Policy and Funding Arrangements 2015
