ABOUT THE INDUSTRY PARTNER

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is the Australian Government agency responsible for supporting and investing in sport at all levels. One part of the remit for the ASC is to drive research and innovation in sport.

RESEARCH TO BE CONDUCTED

The research project is two parts. Part 1 is to develop the free surface code and place within the existing code base, test and validate. There is early prototype code that needs further development, validation and implementation. Part 2 will be working with sports to analyse human, equipment and fluid interaction. You will be helping to create performance insights that effect race outcomes.

RESEARCH OUTCOMES

The research and development outcomes from this work will be a developed, validated and implemented free-surface model that will be built into the ASC’s existing CFD code base. The code will be launched on ASC existing HPC platform and available for use by the Australian Sport sector. Further outcomes will be looking at the human, equipment and fluid interaction with athlete specific biomechanics to find performance insights for greater performance outcomes.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The intern will receive $3,300 per month of the internship, usually in the form of scholarship payments.

It is expected that the intern will primarily undertake this research project during regular business hours and maintain contact with their academic mentor throughout the internship either through face-to-face or phone meetings as appropriate.

The intern and their academic mentor will have the opportunity to negotiate the project’s scope, milestones and timeline during the project planning stage.
