APR Intern Program
APR Intern is a not-for-profit (a STEM organisation) and the only recognised national postgraduate all discipline intern program 3-6 month projects, for PhD’s or Masters by Research, doing research in any field. We have a standard Agreement with over 30 Australian Universities keen to get their PhD’s into industry to increase academic transfer of knowledge into industry.
The Opportunity: A PhD or Masters student is able to spend up to 4 days per week at your organisation/ University/ remotely on the research project.
Our process starts with the industry partner drafting a Research Project Plan where the organisation captures the research or industry challenge project.
We can combine Vouchers and Rebates, depending on each project. These include but are not limited to:
In January 2022 NSW Government – established SRN with a Space industry internship program to support HDR students and Early Career Research (ECR) staff affiliated with the Network to undertake paid internships to connect them with domestic and international opportunities at the world’s leading Space Agencies and industry partners. This covers 8 Universities: UTS, USYD, UNSW, UoN, UoW, MQ, Western Sydney University & ANU.
In May 2023 NSW SRN agreed for APR Intern to take over delivery of the 10 Internships per year with SRN funding 10 Industry Partner Vouchers $12,000 for any of the 3-6 month SRN internships.
Subsidised internship costs:
The Voucher is available to both new and existing APR.Intern and SRN Space Industry Partners, one per calendar year – all relevant businesses are encouraged to apply.
Businesses must be in NSW based Space/Defence and students doing PhD’s at the above Universities.
The Subsidy is funded by the Federal Department of Industry, Science & Resources’ Women in STEM & Entrepreneurship (WiSE) grants program, with 113 available as Vouchers.

The Intern: The intern is paid a $3,000 per month stipend in form of a scholarship via the University, out of the industry partner fee, and the University covers them for all aspects of insurance as an enrolled student. The intern also comes with a part-time Academic Mentor to engage with, and your organisation provide an Industry Supervisor to manage the research project.
