MEDIA RELEASE 2 OCTOBER 2025
The NSW Space Research Network (SRN), in partnership with APR.Intern, is pleased to announce the continuation and expansion of its funded industry internship programs for 2025/26, offering PhD students and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) unprecedented opportunities to connect with leading space agencies and industry partners in Australia and abroad.
Established in July 2021 by the NSW Government, the SRN’s Internship Program was designed to support higher degree by research (HDR) students and ECRs from eight NSW/ACT universities – University of Technology Sydney, University of Sydney, University of NSW, University of Newcastle, University of Wollongong, Macquarie University, Western Sydney University, and Australian National University – by providing paid internships with domestic and international space agencies and industry partners.
SRN has partnered with APR.Intern to manage the delivery of these opportunities. Since May 2023, APR Intern has overseen some fully SRN fully funded internships for Space industry partners, including a current NASA Jet Propulsion Labs (JPL).
These internships allow PhD students and ECRs to gain practical experience in the space sector while giving industry partners access to high-quality research talent, strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.
Space industry partners are encouraged to apply for the 2025/26 APR internships. Businesses interested in hosting a PhD student or ECR through the SRN-funded internship program can access further details and application guidelines: https://aprintern.org.au/business-info/costs-rebates/nsw-srn/
“The SRN Internship Program 2025/2026, delivered in partnership with APR Intern, will connect Higher Degree Researchers (HDRs) and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) with Australia’s space industry and leading international space agencies. The program is designed to strengthen industry networks, enhance participants’ skills and experience, and bring this knowledge back to help shape the future of the local space ecosystem,” said SRN Co-Director Prof. Stefan Williams and A/Prof. Dush Thalakotuna.
“APR intern is delighted to again partner with the NSW Space Research Network to bring cutting edge talent from NSW and ACT leading research universities into the NSW and global space industry,” APR.Intern National Program Manager, Glen Sheldon said.
