Australian Postgraduate Research Intern (APR.Intern) is Australia’s only PhD internship program spanning all sectors, disciplines and universities. The program connects PhD students with industry through short-term research projects, empowering students to thrive in a practical work environment.

For businesses, APR.Intern is a platform to access some of Australia’s brightest research minds and tap into new worlds of innovation.

APR.Intern is a program at AMSI, the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, the national body for the mathematical sciences in Australia. AMSI is a joint venture partnership of 12 universities with membership including an additional 18 universities, five government agencies and five mathematical and statistical societies. The University of Melbourne is the lead agent for the joint venture.

A not-for-profit program, APR.Intern is open to all PhD students with a particular focus on advancing women in STEM. The program is supported by the Australian Government Department of Education through the National Research Internship Program.

The Business Development Officers (BDO) play keys roles in identifying industry partners and building project descriptions with them, as well as facilitating student and academic mentor access toavailable opportunities.

APR.Intern is seeking to recruit BDOs to immediately join the organisation in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory.   Employment will be for the 2020 year and may be a secondment or a joint university appointment.  Professional Recognition Loadings may be available for BDO’s at the end of 2020.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, self-motivated and able to engage with industry from SMEs to large corporates, research institutes and government agencies, as well as, the university sector. Strong business development skills and an ability to liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders across all levels of industry and academia will be essential. An understanding of the research and PhD landscape is highly desirable.
