Internships Update, February 2021

Thank you for your interest in an APR.Intern industry placement.

Our Australian Government grant period is coming to a close in March 2021 and we are in discussions about transitioning to a new version of the program in the new financial year.

During this transition period, we will undertake a review and refresh to herald the next exciting era of Australian postgraduate research internships. Our focus will remain on facilitating industry placements for research students and nurturing the translation of research skills into business innovation across Australia.

The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) has shepherded and grown the APR.Intern program over 12 years, where it has scaled from a PhD internship program focused on the mathematical sciences to a national program encompassing all academic disciplines and industry sectors.

We look forward to continuing to connect research students with innovative industry partners. Subscribe to our Internship Alerts here for ongoing internship updates.

There are two ways to apply for a PhD industry internship:

  • Respond directly to an Internship
If your skillset fits one of our advertised internship opportunities, apply directly to the project.
  • Submit a General Application
If no current internships are appropriate, we encourage you to make a general application for the team to keep on file. A Potential Industry Partners form is required as part of this application (see form below).

Eligibility criteria can vary depending on your university and the industry partner. However, the following must be met by all students:

  • You must be a currently enrolled PhD student at an Australian university (some Advertised Internships may take Masters students – see project description for details)
  • You must have met the requirements of your confirmation milestone and your application must be supported by your Principal Supervisor with written approval provided with your application
  • You must be either a domestic (Australian citizen or permanent resident) student, or an international student with the appropriate student visa
