Project Background

Lamson deals with Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) and RFID systems. Lamson is planning to design and develop a system which is a combination of AMR and RFID unit. RFID unit detects the RFID tags and provides the information about the EPC whereas the AMR provides the location information. So, the new application should gather the information from both AMR and RFID unit and show the location of the detected tags by using the location information received from AMR.

Research to be Conducted

Research will be undertaken on:

  • What suitable technologies can be used for the development of GUI
  • How to process the information received from RFID MCON XML file
  • How to correlate the location information with the tag data etc.

Skills Required

We are looking for a PhD student with the following skills:

  • Experience with database, web development and Telnet
  • Experience or good knowledge of the development of software by using C/C++/C#

Expected Outcomes

The expected outcome of the project is a stand-alone software program which gathers information from RFID and AMR units and presents the asset locations on facility map and in a tabular format.

Additional Details

The intern will receive $3,000 per month of the internship, usually in the form of stipend payments.

It is expected that the intern will primarily undertake this research project during regular business hours, spending at least 80% of their time on-site with the industry partner.  The intern will be expected to maintain contact with their academic mentor throughout the internship either through face-to-face or phone meetings as appropriate.

The intern and their academic mentor will have the opportunity to negotiate the project’s scope, milestones and timeline during the project planning stage.
